PRESSURE/INTEREST GROUP AND THEIR FUNCTIONS

Pressure group can be define as the coming together of people of the same interest for the purpose of achieving a particular aim, after the aim, the coming together or the pact might end. 


The simplest definition of pressure group is the organization of people which formed itself to influence government policy socially, economically or but not necessarily want to involve in election like political parties.

Before I give more point I will quickly talk on political party, so that you can have full knowledge how they are totally different from pressure group, but note, political party end aim is to seek the Control of government, most time pressure end aim is for government to satisfy the interest of their member, after that they don't stick together anymore.

Now, Political party can be said to be as an organization of like-minded fellows seeking the Control of government through constitutional means.

Political party is one of the starlight that uphold a democratic system, if a political party does not exist in a country, there is no way the electoral commission can see to the political issue of a country if the political institution does not exist, though some political party are form for business sake of which is bad and at the same time others might be form in order to uphold the Democratic status in a state (country).

Political party cannot emerge if some men in the society doesn't have political ambition, political party now come out to light as those ambitious men who might be anyone due to right to vote and be voted for come together with one aim of taking control of government through constitutional means.

FUNCTIONS OF PRESSURE GROUP :

1. GIVES OUT WORKING SUGGESTIONS :

Pressure group might be form in other to give the government of the day a working advice which will in one way or the other help that regime, they offer advises at the local, state and the federal level for good administration and to their favor.

2. ACT AS WATCHDOG:

Pressure group act as watchdog of every action the government may be trying to implement or pass on as a bill, pressure groups use many platforms to express their will and make other people or the mass in general realize that this and this is the way things are suppose to be, pressure group serve as watchdog just like the press in a democratic state when public policies right are infringed upon by government decision.

3. ACT AS BRIDGE BETWEEN GOVERNMENT AND THE MASS:

Just as said earlier, pressure group serve as link or bridge between government and masses in that all action carried out by government is been reviewed by them and they take quick action if it is good for public or which might only want to be in favour of the so call government, as pressure group influence government policies for change, so as the society grows large and large.

4. BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION :

Bribery and corruption is prevented by this group through every time action on letting people know about government policy, they help to prevent bribery and corruption in the political system through their activities.

5. PROVISION OF MANPOWER BANK : 

They provide manpower bank from which government will get some expert among them and this individuals will be very usefull in government administration, E.G appointments of public analyst into politics.

TECHNIQUES EMPLOYED BY PRESSURE GROUPS TO ACHIEVE THEIR AIMS AND OBJECTIVES 

1. Mass media

3. Boycott
4. Lobbying
5. Dialogue
6. Demonstrations.
